New York Bike App Reviews

Doesnt give direction like NYC spokes does and doesnt give a full map like NYC bike map app does. However the layers are nice, though playing with them causes the app to crash. Im going to give this a shot and leave it on my phone until it gets an update. Its got potential.

I like that it has a GPS feature and you can modify it on the go. Not like other stiff bike maps.

Its good, has GPS, and is up to date which is great. Just wish more people used it to take full advantage of the other features like the bike friendly establishments- Im always looking for restaurants that will cater to my bike like they do strollers

I was basically looking for an app that would utilize Google Maps bicycle routes API and this is the one. Google generates routes that are much better than what Spokes NYC generates.

I love this app! Just moved here and loads better off of the 3G network than spokes NYC. I do think this app is overdue for an update on some of the problems mentioned in other reviews.

I couldnt figure out why I wasnt seeing the direction line on the map until I realized that when you have the bike lane layer on, its the same color as the direction line. VERY CONFUSING. Please change the color of direction line or the bike lane line. Other than that it seems really great. Well worth .99¢ Very effective twitter integration. I wonder how the stolen bike flags work. User reports? Police Reports? I also wonder why you cant bring up Manhattan and Brooklyn bike layers at the same time. This app has got the potential to be amazing.

I bought the app based on all the good reviews, and I want to love it but so far its been totally useless to me. I ride everywhere and know the City bike routes pretty well but sometimes I still need a reference, particularly when riding in unfamilliar territory and/or outer boroughs. Bike lanes are not up to date- at least not in BK. I wanted to use it primarily as an easy reference map but without every bike lane, what good is it? I dont care where bikes have been stolen. Theyre stolen everywhere, all he time! Why do I need this info. Dangerous intersections: I also dont find this info helpful (they are everywhere!) unless it pertains to bike-lane detours caused by construction or other interruptions (see below) What I would like this app to have is the following: Every Bike lane/path/route. Period. An index of bike shops- for when Im out on the road and a brake cable snaps or I get a flat and need a new tube. Also an index of places to get air would be tremendously helpful. I would like to know when construction causes detours in heavily travelled bike lanes- like when the manhattan bridge bike path was closed and you had to take the other lane- and get dropped out at bowery & Canal into an infernal disaster of a dangerous intersection. I would like the app to provide a viable, bike friendly alternate route/detour.

Having the new york bike map on my iPhone alone is worth 99 cents. Most navigation apps are car-centric but this one is great for the city where so many people are biking now.

This app is completely useless, it nevers provides me with the best route. It thinks that you cant bike over the williamsburg bridge! I want my money back!

As near as I can tell, its better than anything else on the market. It doesnt always give the best routes but its certainly better than nothing, especially when exploring new territory. I just wish you could move the route around the way you can with regular Google maps.

I live in greenpoint Brooklyn, which means almost every route that I take to get to soho or the lower east side should use the Williamsburg bridge. According to this app, I should be going a mile out of my way every time and take the manhattan bridge. Its directed me over the 59th street bridge to get to 14th and 1st! Crazy. Completely useless.

Takes many steps to set directions. I still dont know what the little target sign does.

I used the free one for a long time and the only thing I didnt like was that I couldnt re-route using an alternative one. The paid version has it! The only thing missing is bike racks location.

works as advertised. I need to use it a bit more to get into any detail.
